Ba Dinh square is the largest square in Vietnam. The name Ba Dinh is derived from an Uprising named Ba Dinh that occurred in 1886 - 1887, an anti-French rebellion.

Ba Dinh square is on one side of former Hanoi citadel. It is 100 meter wide and 320 meter long, going along with 240 square of grass.
On 2nd September 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Proclamation of Independence for Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Surrounding Ba Dinh square are important buildings including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Parliament House, Head office of Planning and Investment Ministry, Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh President House and Garden, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
