Old quarter Hanoi is bustling and popular for tourists who both stay and visit. Back to 15th century, households from countryside in the Red River Delta arrived and promoted their owned business. Their children inherited parents business and property also.

The Old quarter is about 5 sq km including over 70 streets in which are mostly named the name of products made and sold here such as silver, copper, bamboo, burning coal, fish sauce, cotton, silk, paper, oil, shoes, and tin streets....

Traditionally, houses in the Old quarter Hanoi consists of 2 floors. The 1st floor is for business, kitchen, rest room, warehouse, dinning room. The 2nd floor is place for worshiping ancestor, bed rooms. There is small square yard in the middle of the land where the sunlight and fresh air come through.

Nowadays, families in the old quarter Hanoi build concrete houses with 4 - 7 floor but the land still narrow as before, 2.5 - 4 meters in width and 10 - 50 meter long. There are dozen of shops, cafes, bars, travel agents, galleries, hotels...set up. It is quite attractive area for tourists to stay and explore the food and culture of Hanoi.
