LONG BIEN BRIDGE IN HANOI

Long Bien Bridge, or former name Paul Doumer Bridge - the Governor  of French Indochina, was built in 1899 - 1902.

It is about 2.4 km long, one of the longest bridges in Asia. It was finished by 3000 workers and over 40 engineers. They used almost 6000 tons of different kinds of metals, and about 30.000 CM of stone to build the bridge. During the war time (1965 - 1972), the bridge was attacked by US air force 14 times.

It was the only one bridge in Hanoi across the Red River until 1985 by the time Hanoi inaugurated 2 more brides Chuong Duong and Thang Long. Today, train, bicycles, and motorbikes are allowed join the traffic system on Long Bien Bridge.
